mnvikingsfreak
MUSKYBUCK.......what has culpepper not done that was "clutch" I recall last year in unbeatable lambeau destroying the packers defense if thats not clutch I dont know what to say is ??? barebackjack
Ive been wrong about fairweather fans, thats not at all what Vikings fans are, I apologize. You have to be a real fan to be able to take disappointment year after year and keep on returning with high hopes every year, thats a real fan. Better luck next year
nolte
VikingsfreakI'm real glad that you can still remember the one big game you won last year. Congratulations. It's refreshing to think that after 5 months you still have pretty much the same comeback. Hey how did you do the next week, refresh my memory. If my memory serves right your "clutch" QB didn't have the goods when the division was on the line the other two times with the Pack. One big win doesn't make a dynasty. I'm pretty sure the only real "clutch" player we've got is our kicker. Hopefully I didn't jinx em now. Ah let the border rivalry begin.
fishyguy
Ah, I love border battles. Vikingsfreak, isn't funny you get a hard time about remembering/mentioning the one game they won't talk about. The standard come back is what about last year, or what happened last week, and of course the other line I won't bring up as it bores me to death. If they need to know about the week after thier beating, it went like this...we got smoked by a very good Philly team on the road. You remember Philly, the one team wearing green that can still defend their home field in the playoffs.
Down to Earth
Maybe if we get all the Favre playoff references out of the way and all the Super Bowl trump card comments out of the way in preseason we won't have to listen to them all season long. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

I'll tell you what, in the biggest game of the year for both the vikings and the packers it sure as he!! wasnt Favre who showed up too play. In fact its not a stretch too say hes the exact reason they lost. Too think he can make a bonehead play like he did at the end of the first half of that game and packers fans just laugh. That guy should have been crucified for such stupidiy, putting an end too a drive like that and halting all kinds of momentum heading into the locker room. It also was not Favre who showed up too play the year before against the falcons either. In fact other than 1996, when has Favre come up clutch in the playoffs? I seem too remember Young coming up cluth AGAINST Favre in 1998. I remember Elway coming up clutch in the superbowl against Favre whos team was favored by double digits. And i also know whats going too come in the next post, at least it was in the superbowl. At least he has a superbowl ring, the old standby comeback for everything. Maybe the only thing that bugs me almost as much as the medias love affair with Favre is the one with Vick. The absolute single biggest over rated player in all of sports. I just saw the first power ranking of the season on FOX and it has the packers #24. Looks like its not just simple minded blind viking fans who are the only ones who think the packers window is closing.
otto_man
clutch? how about losing 4 superbowls is that clutch?getting pounded 41-0 in a playoff game, there's clutch for sure.losing the division title on a fourth and a lot, big time clutch!!you vikings fans have no "clutch"! just keep up the chatter and you'll fall right on your faces like years gone by and the Packers will be the division winners AGAIN!!!by the way J_W dead on about Vick!! james_walleye
Otto you missed my point. I know all about the vikings history. There was no game in NFL history as rediculous as 41-0. There was nothing more painful as losing too the falcons. I know all that. I was born in '75 so i dont know aobut 4 superbowls. All of this gets pointed out by packer fans. And then i see Culpepper has never done anything clutch. I guess in recent memory i've seen a lot of packer talent not amount too much. The vikings start strong, fade at the end. The packers start slow, come on at the end. Whats the difference? Neither team lived up too anything, not just the vikings. Culpepper not clutch. When have we seen Favre clutch, when has the last time been? Like 8 years ago? Theres 2 sides too all of these coins. Neither team has lived up too anything lately. Down to Earth
Actually the Falcons debactle was 2 years before last years loss against the Vikings. Sandwiched in between there was the Green Bay Defense giving up the 4th and 26 to McNabb in the Playoffs(Remember that one Otto Man?). You seem to remember the Vikes one, but seemed to leave out the Packs version.Fact is Favre is still a top 10 QB in this league now and after his career is done will be viewed as one of the top to play the game at the position for multiple reasons. I'm sure it will only last until the next wave of great QB's finish their careers of which they will be compared and put in the same categories as the Marinos, Elways, Montanas, Bradshaws, Favres, and those farther back than I can remember. Now can we just get on to this season and forget this goofy merry-go-round QB debate. Its been beat to death on this forum multiple times.
mnvikingsfreak
favre is really clutch in the playoffs 4 ints against a horrible vikings defense at home is unbelievable I think he completes more passes to the other teams safeties than his own receivers whats even more clutch is loosing for the 1st time ever at lambeau in the playoffs a few years back to atlanta was simply genius! like a wise man once said "you can count on two things the sun to rise and brett favre to throw interceptions in playoff games"
muskybuck
Even now at the close to the end of his career Favre is twice the QB the star QB-arm rolling-cheerleader from the Vikes will ever be. If you put the two up for grabs-Favre would go first. Hard as it is to swallow-you know it and I know it.
Down to Earth
Freak,You really need to come up with something new. You are starting to sound like all the Packer fans who keep using the Super Bowl trump. Give it up already.Muskybuck,If you go with Favre at the same point in his career as Culpepper is now, I'd say it is about even with Favre given a slight edge. But starting now, I'd would have to lean towards Culpepper, in fact I don't even think its close. I think this year fans will see just how good Culpepper will be. buzzsaw
I'm just going to continue to have "DTE" respond to both sides of this debate on behalf of me.... he is the perennial voice of reason/common sense/non infamatory comments etc. Did I mention that I agree with pretty much everything he says! Otto, I know you just say things to get a rise Vikesfreak, you and otto should never watch a vikes/packer tilt together in a bar Muskiebuck, great username!! but C'mon, Pep is a better QB right now, Favre has definitely been around longer and has a super bowl win under his belt so from that standpoint he has better career stats. I'd have to say lets compare the two when Peps career is over and we can make an informed decision. Bareback, your funny, keep up the good work! Thats all I gotzz, I ain't gotz no more. (thats what the Packers owners said after they got done overpaying the most overrated player in Packer history Bubba Franks all that dough) !! nolte
BuzzI always like your comments even if they are from the other side of the river. The fact of the matter is the Vikes Pack all time records are almost dead even. I think the Pack has a slight edge by a couple of games, big deal. I'm guessing that is why there is always such good banter. It's not like the rivalry with Detroitlet, cause they've been so bad for so long. It's sad when you have no "Glory Days".On the lines of "clutch". You could make any claim that someone wasn't clutch at any time unless they won the big one. So right now the only "clutch" QB is Tom Brady. The other 31 starting quarterbacks are Pikers. IT's sad isn't it when we consider the next 31 best QBs in the world as crappy. I think both teams should be real thankfull they don't have the QB woes of the Lions or Bears. What's worse throwing some INTs ints in a playoff game, or knowing you have no sniff of even making it there.
mnvikingsfreak
down to earth....its all good fun if you post something totally outrageous like these packer fans do you will get the same response in return all these super bowl losses they talk about were before I was born.favre's career is just about over and he is no way even near MVP what type of response would people get if I put joey harrington for MVP? its all good fun

nolte
KodiakYou're right I'm just glad I've got to enjoy so much of it. Who knows maybe we'll get another bowl full this year. I'm just sorry you vikes always get the Rice pudding with the big walnut in it. Always hard to swallow that. Stats are great but they don't always represent the whole picture. To be really special a player has to have a certain Moxy about him. It's the sort of leadership stuff you can't teach, but some players just have. In my opinion they are few and far between and if Daunte can develop that he will be pretty special. I hate to say it but it's the truth. Athletically he is pretty complete, but I don't think he has developed into that great leader that elite QBs usually are. Great Players are talked about years and years down the road. All the NFL players are the best in the world. The amount of speed, power, quickness, while still posesssing touch to make great plays is remarkable. Some players just have something a little xtra that makes them great to watch.

I don't think he's been able to develop into the leader he is capable of simply because #84 has been in the huddle. I honestly believe this will be the year Culpepper truly develops as a QB and will show the leadership capability he has always had. It is truly HIS team now, and that could never be said in the past.
