CodyDawg
We are having an activity based Youth Day for kids on August 27th from 9 am to 2 pm at Beaverbrook in East Bethel. It is totally free and the kids can shoot shotgun, .22s, pellet guns, archery, try orienteering, follow a blood trail, go through a shoot/dont shoot course and lotsa other stuff. We REALLY want to get kids out there whom have not had a chance to experience some of these things, so if you know of a kid who may have an interest but doesnt have the opportunity, please share this with them and lets get them involved. Lunch will be provided for free as well as a some prize giveaways. Let me know if anyone needs additional info, it will be a fun day!For those of you wondering where your Pheasant Forever dollars go, this is a good example of where we use some of our chapter's funds! pheasant maniac
that sounds like fun. what are the age limits? my son is almost 8 and loves the hunting.
CodyDawg
There are no age limits. Obviously with an 8 year old, you have to be careful. We have certified Firearm Safety Instructor standing with the kid to help them shoot. If you come, make sure to bring that non-hunting friend! birdswacker
Is this still going to be happening?
CodyDawg
Absolutely it is. I have been busy all week getting prepared for it. Please bring as many kids as you can, especially those who have not had a chance to be introduced to these sporting activities! It is FREE! birdswacker
CodyDawg I brought my 9yo. son to this event and I can't tell you how great of a time he had there and it was all free. You guys all deserve a big pat on the back for the excellent job you and all the volunteers did. I think you guys should advertise this event more the only place I saw it was on FM and that was it. If you need volunteers next year count me in.
CodyDawg
Great to hear! It was a lot of work, but worth it. Final count was 153 kids plus who knows how many parents. So the advertising is definitely the hard part. We gave out 300 fliers at Gamefair, put ads in 4 newspapers, hung flyers in 25 or more businesses, had a mention on Minnesota Bound, WCCO, and KFAN, word of mouth and a mailing to another 300 kids. But I fully feel we didnt reach that many. So any ideas (that dont cost an arm and a leg) would be appreciated. As for the offer of help....oh, could we use it. Basically 3 of us planned and organized the whole thing. We had 12 volunteers and could have used 25. There were lines 10 deep on the shotgun shooting stations (2) and the .22 shooting stations (3) all day. So if you would help, you could really help us out. Thankfully Rapids Archery Club, 4H Shooting Sports, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, MN Trappers Assoc, Wildlife Science Center, Douglas County Pheasants Forever, and MDHA all helped out a ton.
