Baby Reef Hawg

I just picked up a baby reef hawg today and was wondering if anybody has been doing any good on the baby's or the big ones.

I didn't know they had a baby one. I have a 8 inch with all kinds of teeth marks and a 10 inch that has yet to be bitten. How big is the Baby? Is it the 6 inch model? I have thought about getting one, interested in hearing your thoughts after using it a time or 2.

Not to get to far off the topic but I just purchased my first Reef Hawg (8inch)the other day....dont know why it took me so long to get around to buying one...but.......

How do you work this lure? Short snaps/pulls of the rod like a suick or is it more a underwater walk the dog sorta thing?

Short quick snaps with slack in between the snaps. I love them babies, I picked up a smaller fish Sat morning on Mantrap on a black/white baby reef hawg. They are a classic bait that offers good action with a smaller size for more finicky fish. I actually prefer the babies over the full size ones, I think the smaller version rolls and swing more erratic.

i always thought that you just casted out reef hawgs and slowly reeled them in? i bought a ton of gear and i guess i just dont know how to fish some of it. well thats good to know about the short pulls. maybe now i might catch one before i die

My brother uses a lot of reef hawgs. I personally can't make them work properly. My brother retrieves his lures much faster than I do with the short quick jerks. I prefer pig jrs which swing from side to side more with my slower style retrieve.

One of his originals is the large perch colored reef hawg. He has caught so many large northern on it up in Canada that there is almost no paint left on it. He'll often catch a fish on that beat up old reef hawg when nothing else is working.
