Rock polishing

I was glad to see an extended discussion a couple months back regarding polishing. I've been polishing by the book long enough that I'm ready to start experimenting with alternative grits and methods. Has anyone had success with other abrasives?

Sorry Ron, just have gone by the book and with commercially available grits I got at a west Duluth hobby shop.

Didn't even know there were other ways to do it.
