Fawcett Lake - Pickeral Arm Camp

Recommended Posts

Heading to Fawcett Lake on Aug. 8th. Wondering if anyone has been up there recently or in the past. This is my first trip up there and my first fly-in trip so I'm very excited. Just wondering if anyone would like to share any tips on where and how to catch some walleyes and hopefully a big northern or two. I thought I'd consult with you folks before I went to the store and bought any fishing equipment. If you had to pick two Northern lures...what would they be?

Thanks,

Nels

NELS-BELS, I would check with Lee at PAC as to what would work best on your fly-in. This June was my 21st year at PAC and some years have made two trips. Don't know if you have been there before but Lee will give you the straight scoop. If you go with leeches or live minnows, you will have to get them in Canada. You can take crawlers with you across the border if they are in artificial (no dirt) bedding. Regardless of when we go, we almost exclusively use jigs and a twister tail tipped with a leech or crawler. This past June, our biggest pike was 42" and caught on a 1/4oz. jig. I would guess you have Lee's phone and email but if you need them I can get them for you. Have a great trip and good luck on some big sows.

Awesome trip!!! Lee and Julie and the rest of the staff really go out of there way to make your trip a good one. They even flew in two more cases of beer when we ran out.

The Fawcett lake cabin is really nice.

The fishing was great and the scenery was incredible. The biggest walleye was 25". We didn't really go after any Northerns but we caught plenty of 30" and smaller while fishing for walters.

My Dad has been going on fly in trips for 25 years now and the last 4 years with Pickeral Arms Camps. He is an old school fisherman that thinks you have to use live bait all of the time to catch fish. Let just say I outfished everyone in the group with a chartruese jig head and either a black 3" Gulp minnow grub (twister tail) or a white 3" Power tail. I even outfished them with Gulp crawlers on a crawler harness/spinner rig. The best part about using Gulp is that you can usually catch at least 6 fish or more before you have to replace it. Next time any of you go up you should try the stuff, it really works and its biodegradable.

Can't wait to go again.
