Jeremy airjer W
I may be purchasing an out of state boat next weekend and am wondering if I have to get a MN license before I put it in the water or do I have a couple weeks max like a vehicle? 0 Dan Thiem
Hey Airjer, wouldn't it be the same thing if I took my boat to Wisconsin. I would think as long as the stickers are up to date there shouldn't be any problem. But as you know I'm no expert.

0 blakjack23
I bought my new(used) boat this year from Arkansas. After doing alot of research I found that you have 90 days to keep an out of state boat in MN as long as the registration is current for the state its registered in. Check out this link... http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/rlp/regulations/boatwater/boatingguide.pdf
0 Jeremy airjer W
As far as I can tell I have 15 days to transfer ownership of the boat. If I was the owner from out of state I could operate it for no more than 90 days in a row, in this state. So I would gather that if I wanted to put it in the water on sunday to put around I should be O.K. as long as the out of state license is current and I bring along proof that I did indeed purchase the boat. 0 musky hunter
I purchased an out of state boat this year. I would register it as soon as practicle. But one thing you may want to keep in mind, if you are purchasing a trailer with it, Minnesota will tax the trailer as new, not used. For me, I think it was about an extra $60 or so just for the trailer registration, over and above what they would charge for transferfing the licence from previously regestered Minnesota trailer. It's not a deal breaker but if you had an equal rig to buy in Minnesota that might tip the scales.
0 blakjack23
They will ask you what the trailer is worth and tax you accordingly so make sure you throw out a lowball
0 BIG DS
Low balls are ok, but if you go too low the deputy registar reserves the right to look up the trailer value and charge you accordingly no mater what you say it is worth. There is no tax on the boat and motor and the trailer is considered 1/4 the value of the package roughly.
