Numbers game

Recommended Posts

I asked this question on another topic but I thought it would be interesting to see as a whole how much time we spend using one type of bait compared to others.

Quote:

I was also wondering while reading through this topic what percentage of time we spend throwing top water baits? I would be curios to see a breakdown of top water/glider/jerk/crank/ bucktail/etc. The catch numbers tell us bucktails are were it’s at? I personally throw top water maybe 10% of my time on the water.

How often do the rest of you use topwater compared to other baits?"

Im guessing I fish my baits in these percentages.

Topwater = 20%

Gliders/Jerks = 50% (Maybe more)

Bucktails/Spinner Baits = 20%

Cranks = 10%

RU

I'm pretty interested to see what others break downs look like.

Ok now fuss up Jon, what are your numbers? Please include how often you throw RED... lol

This is a nearly impossible question for me to answer. My percentages can change pretty drasitcally from year to year, sometimes day to day. But this year this is what I've been doing....

Bucktails - 70%

Topwater - 20%

Plastics - 5%

Jerks - 3%

Cranks - 2%

Mid October until ice up it'll be...

Cranks - 95%

Plastics - 4%

Jerks - 1%

Two years ago I was probably about 5% for bucktails. I would go for weeks without using one. Since I've been making my own, I've gotten back to using them a lot more. Jerks also used to be on the end of my line well over 50% of the time. They would move fish for me all the time. But I got smarter (or dumber) when I couldn't put fish in the boat with them and don't use them much at all anymore.

So in a nutshell, what are my percentages? Really, I don't have a clue. What I've been doing lately could very well completely change in a few weeks. But lately I've been in a bucktail rut. And to think that I used to hate using bucktails a couple years ago....
