I was out trolling cranks on a local lake last night and started off with 2 'eyes in the boat within about 5 minutes of eachother. Then all I could catch was rockbass. I even switched up cranks and depths and still rockbass. Anyone else ever have this problem while cranking night time 'eyes?

I've always found that if I'm catchin' rock bass that the walleyes probably aren't hitting too well. The good news is, if you can't catch a walleye, your manhood will remain intackt, saved by the rock bass catch!

Nothing is wrong with rockbass tongue.gif

I actually used to eat them up at the cabin on West Battle, I really couldn't tell the difference between them and sunfish or crappies. I have never been a big fan of fish though so it all tastes the same to me.

Pig_sticka, I agree with you. Rock bass taste fine to me also. But when I'm fishing for walleyes they bother the sh*t out of me!

I have caught rock bass at night trolling too. They sometimes seem to be near the walleyes or being chased by them. So it isnt a bad thing, just a pain in the @$$!

I get into Rock Bass all the time while cranking for walleyes after dark. Not so much on Mille Lacs, but very much on Woman Lake. For me, on that lake, there has never been a connection between the two species. Sometimes I get into a mess of rock bass and can't shake them. Other times it is 50/50 rock bass and walleyes. Then, there are those occasions when it is almost all walleye.

The rock bass are very much a buzz kill though. Can't stand the little buggers. They have made a fool out of me many times when they get hooked on the back or top of the head. With their rounder bodies, a small rock bass being pulled against the water when hooked in the back can feel like a nice sized walleye.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. The only things I have done which have/have not helped are to upsize my cranks, moving slightly away from the school of rockies, and/or speeding up some. The walleyes are still there so something has to trigger them in my mind.
