Lac Qui Parle

I hunted Lac Qui Parlee 20 years ago and was interested in giving it a try again. The last time I went back in the 80's our group hunted on pits near the refuge and had very good luck. I was wondering if anyone could give location or info on if these pits are still there also what the fees they charged last year. Or if you could give any other locations to have a sucessful hunt around there.

i dont think laq qui parle is as good as it could be they close the season to early. there are not a lot of geese that get shot down there anymore. just something to think about before planning a trip

The last couple years have been sparce. It has stayed warm too late in the season and the geese stay feeding up in Canada. A couple weeks after season closed, the main migration came down. If you're going to go there, try to make it as late in the season as possible. One change from 20 years ago is that you are only allowed to have six shells per person in the state blinds. The hunters off the refuge always sound like a truck from Federal Cartridge offloads at each blind every morning. After we hunt the state blinds in the morning, part of our group pheasant hunts in the afternoon and part goes Walleye fishing on the river. We always have a good time, even if the geese don't cooperate.

I have some fond memories of Lac - I went to school in St. Cloud and hunting that area a lot in the early 90's. I'm sure things have really changed. I think it's still one goose, which I've never understood. The state is loaded with them, I know about the EPP. Maybe it would better if they stop protecting them (EPP), the don't seem as adaptable as the greater honks.

hunted there two years in a row now done farelly well.I beileve there thinking about opening the season later for more geese.AS far as blinds go the pit blinds are nice for when it rains but I dont think the have as great of range of motion. A regular ground blind is nice It seems they space those out more.but whatever. the thing that kinda yanks my chain is that the guys that sell blinds aroud the refuge can shoot as many shells as they want and they do. SO thats my whole speel on it. over all it's a great place to bring the kids just because of the thousands of geese that are there.
