Ridiculous Evening- Tourneys take over on Maple

I tried to get some recreational bass fishing in last evening on Maple and it was a joke. When I got there, I stopped counting at 30 trailers in the parking lot. Apparently, there were 3 separate bass tournaments happening at the same time. It was so crowded that guys were close to casting over the top of my line. Is there any way that we could get a list going of the tournaments in the area so someone looking to do some recreational bass fishing could avoid lakes that are holding tournaments? Does such a list already exist? If not, I would think it would be beneficial for those trying to pick lakes for their tourneys as well. Let's spread out a little bit and give each other some better odds at catching some fish. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't want to post where my league is going because I think some people would purposely show up to try and compete. Also, if I posted that my league was going to lake X and asked others to not show up so we could have the lake to ourselves, I think I would get a resounding my-mom-sees-this. Me personally, if I show up and a lake is extremely crowded I'g just drive up to a 1/2 hour or so to a different lake.

Legal tournaments are not the problem.

The problem lies in the fact that there are literally dozens of "clubs" that do not require permits to have an event.

I was in one of those leagues last night on Maple. We have no way of knowing what other leagues are showing up there either in most cases. Perfect example. We showed up last night, and there were 2 other leagues. Nothing we could do about it.

Last year my league partner and I contacted over a dozen other leagues that we knew about in the area, set up a meeting for a representative to come and go over these types of issues.

Guess how many league reps showed up?

Frickin 1.

That tells you how many people even care about the next guy and trying to come up with a partial solution.

I am not about to ask for our leage to disband because of the problems at launches. We tried to be a voice to make a difference, and everyone else we rallied to help out just didnt give a hoot.

We tried. Sorry others didnt see the need to try and resolve future issues.

TNFL: Do you really think people would think, "Hmmm I see there is a tourney on Lake X. I am going to go out there and see if I can out-fish them?" Also, I am not suggesting that anyone try and "reserve" a lake for a tournament. A list would just give people the info necessary to choose the environment for which they want to fish. If I would have known that Maple had 3 tourneys going on last night, I would have chosen a different lake from the start.

Yes, I do.

I'm not saying people would want to fish against a full out 50 boat tourney. but if its just "1" not "3" clubs out there they may try to gauge themselves or see what its all about. Most leagues have 8-12 boats and it usually only happens once per year out of 15 nights that we double team a lake. I've never seen 3 at the same time.

I don't really think its that big of a deal to hop lakes if they are too crowded, I do it all the time.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
