Kay Air - Ear Falls, Ontario

Recommended Posts

We are headed to Ear Falls this week and would like to see if any one has used Kay Air out of Ear Falls, Ontario and would like to hear your comments please. We are going to the outpost on Casummit which is around 75 miles north east of Ear Falls. Has any one fished that lake and if so any tips as to where to go for Northerns and Walleyes?

Thanks

Ron Wagner

I haven't fished Casummit, but I have fished Birch which is fairly close. I would start looking for walleyes by fishing windblown islands and shorelines. From there you'll locate other structure.

For pike find patches of cabbage, which can be sparse in those lakes, and throw gold willow leaf spinnerbaits. Good pike will also be near concentrations of walleyes. I keep a heavy stick rigged with a leader and a big 5 of diamonds daredevil or a favorite spoon and you can jig. If you see a big mark among walleyes drop that down and jig it a few times. I've taken several good pike that way.

We used Berkley powerbaits like shad, grubs, minnows, crawlers very successfully this time of year for walleyes. I would also be prepared with salted minnows and live crawlers in artificial bedding but we outfished those baits with powerbait.

Fishman,

You're going to want to bring a wrist brace! I've never caught so many walleyes as I did on my trip through Kay Air. I was up there about 6 years ago and we had great success fishing close to shorelines and around islands. We jigged and brought in salted minnows which worked great. See if he'll let you fly the plane. I obviously did pretty well if I'm writing you this. Have fun and try trolling the bay right off of where the cabins are. I caught a monster northern in there. Have fun and let us know how you did.
