Ufatz
I'm sorta new at this spinner bait stuff. Can you guys help me choose the best reasonably priced casting rod for 3/8 and 1/2 oz. spinner baits. Can't afford the Loomis' and that sort of stuff though. Rod brand and model # if you can. Thanks.
0 Slyster
I have always used Shakespeare Ugly-Stick... 6 foot- Medium Heavy action for spinnerbaits.. maybe $30 or a little more... quite cheap.. would probably get laughed at by some but I lOVE these rods! Come in many styles. I like the black foam handled versions.. I like the feel better than cork. I have 4 different rods my uses.
0 fly651
Try a Shimano Clarus. I have a couple of them right now and works great. It be around 60 bucks for them. If you live near the cities go to Joes sporting goods and they can answer all your questions... forgot what that guys name was but he's the oldest looking one there... talk with him and he should be able to hook you up. 0 fishlakeman
I don't know if your looking for a baitcaster or spinning combo, but for $60, a Fenwick HMX is tough to beat. I'd go with a 6'6 Med Heavy for casting, and maybe a 6' med or med-hvy for spinning. The IM7 and IM8 Gander Mountain rods are pretty nice for the $ also. As far as reels go, I don't know anything about cheaper baitcasters, but for $99, the Pfluger Trion is a pretty sweet reel. There are a ton of nice spinning reels for $30-$60. Shimano's are bullet proof- I have a Sahara ($60) that I really love. For something cheaper, the Sidestab ($30)and Sienna ($30) are great reels, you just have to decide if you want a front or rear drag. I've heard a lot of good things about the Pfluger President ($60) and the lower models. Gander reels offer a lot of ball berings for your buck, and are of lower quality, but with that many ball berings, offer a decent option. Hope this helps on your decision! 0 Fisher Dave
I'll throw in another vote for the Fenwick rods... It sounds crazy, but go to Wal Mart.. they have some on the shelf there wheather you want casting or spinning.. 6'6"-7' Medium Heavy will suit your needs nicely.. I believe they are $50 there. They do carry a couple other rods there that didnt look too bad also.. I cant recall the manufacturer. A rod does not need to be Loomis or St Croix to be a good rod. The rod standards have improved greatly in the recent years.Try to stick to the rods that are smaller and diameter and very stiff... they usually are constructed of higher modulas graphite.. or.. less weight, more sensitive, and more back bone. For spinner baits.. medium heavy fits the bill.
