Twisted no-roll

On several occasions I have found that my rig ends up twisted around the no-roll sinker I am using. The original rig has my line threaded through the hole in the center of a 4 oz no-roll above a barrel swivel with a 6 to 12" leader from the barrel swivel to my hook. The leader and hook will twist around the main line above the no-roll probably 9 times out of 10. I have found that if I take the no-roll off of the main line and hang it from the barrel swivel on a second short leader 2 to 4 ", I significantly reduce twisting but can't eliminate it completely. Is twisting common? Are there other options for rigging? Is there a postion in the current that I should aim for to reduce twisting? Thanks for your input!

A 1" silicone tube and bead above the barel swivel and below the No-Roll usually reduces the tangleing problem.

Match the barel swivel size to the silicone tube diamiter so it fits snugly against the barrel but does not engulf the swivel. If the swivels ability to preform is diminished by the tubing it will not properly eliminate the line twist generated by baits rolling in faster flows...so be sure to keep the swivel operational.

The 3-Way drop rig is a good rig and if kept tight will not tangle up..much. If it is long and loose it will fast become a mess in the current and you will likely not detect it. Shorter drops and leeders in fast water is the rule.

Hope this helps.

I like to use a no roll with a big bead above the barrel swivel and only 6 to eight inch leader to hook closer to six is favored. The bead though cant be to big to engulf the knot. I just like shorter leaders, less twisting and tangling and in fast current with a long leader youre bait is out there flailing and flopping an touger for the fish to key in on.
