Propane tanks with the Weber grill style quick disconnect

Jeremy airjer W

Question

I've been running into more and more people that are saying that nobody will fill there propane tanks equipped with the Weber grill quick disconnect style valve. I was curious to see if any of you are having the same problem.

I think the problem is, at least in our area, is somebody got hurt filling one of these at a super chain gas station in america and the big shots decided to make it there policy not to fill them. As word travels down through employees it changes from company policy to against the law.

I have called our supplier to check on this and was told that as long as the tank is in good condition, and the valve is OPD compliant, its o.k. to fill them. So for now, if you do own one of these, it is O.k. to have them filled.

Check with some of the smaller, possibly independent places that fill lp cylinders. You are right about the bigger chain stores. Usually what happens is someone is too lazy to put on the gloves while filling and when they popped the quick release, the got a nasty case of freeze burn on their hands and arms. Most of the smaller joints only have one maybe two people trained and certified to fill. That way they know that they have someone responsible and reliable. Good luck. If you don't find anyone up there, make the trip to Madison Lake and find Reel Fishing and Tackle, they'll fill it.
