utility trailer axel ?

tomfromblaine

Question

Do torsion axels carry the same loads as a regular axel? the reason I'm asking is I can pick up a torsion axel trailer 12 ft for about $1800 with brakes I need to haul plumbing equipment/supplies to job sites. any input would be a great help as I'm supposed to go look at this rig today, thanks. confused.gif

Torion axles have weight rating like any other axle. Make sure to see what it is rated for and that it is enough for the loads you plan to carry.

I have one on my Floe trailer. Flawless so far in 11 years. On my last leaf spring trailer I put on 3 sets of springs in 12 years.

Mine had a small tab on the axle tube itself. Cant read it much anymore from the corrosion. Depending on the tires it has, they will sometimes limit your weight hauling as much as the axle rating.

One thing to keep in mind and maybe you already know this, the weight of the trailer must be subtracted from the axle capacity to determine how much weight you can actually load onto the trailer. Example; if you have a 3500# axle and the trailer it's self weighs 600#, your actual load capacity is only 2900# to max. out.
