Northern Strike Scent Factor?

Long ago I had heard that if you caught a northern while bass fishing you should change lures or spray it with some kind of scented attractent to mask the Pikes odor. Has this got any validity or is this one of those old I hate Pike stories from way back. I usually give my lure espcially spinner baits or others with skirts a shot of scent after a northern. But does it really do anything?

There may be a touch of validity to this.. but I happen to think its much more a wives tale... I have caught numberous bass on back to back casts after catching a pike without changing the lure. I am much more worried about my own human scent than I am the scent of another fish.
