Lac Suel Report/ Water Temps

Recommended Posts

We were up from the 28th thru the 2nd (last week) and the main lake temps in ear falls went form 52-3 up to 61-2 by thursday the 1st. Fish were shallow in the bays like sawmill (temps went from 58 to 65 in sawmill) and the main lake. by thurs they were definetly on the move and there was a hatch of some kind, I'm guessing minnows, maybe even walleye fry as at the beginning of the week thru tues we rarely marked bait fish. but they showed up on wednesday after an 80 degree day on Tuesday and by thurs there were bait fish just about everywhere you went. All the stomaches were empty except a few and they had freshwater shrimp in them. Limits were no problem, you had to work to find quality though.

Some places it was fish every cast but 1 of 50 was over 15inches, others you only caught 10 per hour but you had trouble finding much under 18. one day/place we caught 45 - 50 in 5 hours with shore lunch break between and 9 were under 18, 5 - 17.5's and 4 15 -16's. Largest was 27.5. (2 people in boat) kept the 5 travelers and ate 3 small for lunch.

Good luck, I'm gong back for another week on Friday! cool.gif

Thanks for the great info, I heading up June 24, (out of Hudson) let me know how things change this next trip, I fished for years at the Ear Falls end of the lake. Sounds like things are a little ahead of last year, we still had a minnow bite in late june with cold temps. Do you ever get to Ghost Narrows it may be worth the trip, we had some great action there years back.

Thanks again, grin.gif

I'll be there at the same time and we go out of hudson as well. We're just staying five days this trip, but will be back for a houseboat trip in Mid-August. Last year at this time was slow by Lac Suel standards, but the reports were because it was so cold and rainy. The weather looks like it has been much better this year and we're hoping to really find some nice fish. We always fish our way up the lake at end up in and around taylor's island. Great fishin' but it realy spoils a guy when he comes back home and has to fish by southern minnesota standards. I'm hoping the crawler bite will have caught on by a couple of weeks from now so we don't have to pay out of the back side for minnows. GULP!may be my best friend.

good luck, we'll be fishin' in a 1850 crestliner.

I'v been on that lake for 12+ years and everytime I leave I cant wait to return, it makes fishing at home a whole different story.. grin.gifgrin.gif

Just got back from Lac Seul last nite. It was the coldest week of fishing we have had in 18 years. Water temps were 66 in the bays on Sat and by the end of Wed, it was down to 53-55. The main lake was even down to 48.8. All week was really cold, windy, and rainy. Biggest pike was 39", walleye 27.5".

Do you have a marine band radio and if so what channel to you monitor? My father-in-law usually monitors the channel that sioux lookout floating lodges uses. WHich outfit are you going out of? We will be up there on wednesday the 22nd but will probably fish closer to Hudson for the evening. BUt thursday we'll be heading up to your direction bright and early. I think the channel is 68 that we nomally monitor up there. I feel like a 13 yo school girl with the anticipation of getting back up there. blush.gif we'll probably be having shore lunch on that south point on taylor's island where that big rock ledge sticks out there. laugh.giflaugh.gif

we'll see ya up there.

I'm going to really try some of these gulp! plastics this year.

Never fished Lac Seul before, I'm a Lake of the Woodser, but I reluctantly tried Gulp a couple weekends ago after my cousin was catching more fish than I was. Part of my problem was spending (wasting) time putting on new leeches, while his Gulp needed attention only after every 10 fish or so. Good stuff. Be safe, and good luck.

I'm on a Souix Lookout FL boat, we come out late Friday the 24th, I have a radio, no name..so just yell for "WB Boat" I'll be on 68. If I see you on the island I'll stop in, keep in touch on the bite, the gulp thing...well I'm with ya, if I buy another bag of that stuff I'll have to get a bigger boat shocked.gif. By the looks of it, we may still be on a minnow bite, hope for some warm weather to turn them on!!!! grin.gif Describe your boat again... do you have a call name??? grin.gif

WB,

I hope we get some good weather. but I know that if I am in the boat it is going to at least rain at some point in the day. Just hope its no too cold. I'll be fishin' with my father-in -law out of his 1850 Crestliner Sportfish (blk/tan) 150 horse johnson and yamaha t8 kicker. doesn't pay for us to bring both of our boats (i also have a crestliner) so 4 of us will be in one boat. we'll be on channel 68 and you can call us by sconasotan or trout boat. ditto on the gulp! got a ton of it and haven't used it too extensively. Did catch some walters on the 6" night crawler up there last year.

good luck

sorry we didn't get to meet up. we fished up by Windy Norrows most of the time jigging with minnows and crawlers in 18-23 FOW. GULP! 3" crawlers and Gulp! minnows worked well too. I had heard reports of shallow bite in the weeds but my father-in-law is very old school and refuses to fish for walleyes in water less than 10 feet. Didn't try spinners as that is kind of hard to do with 4 people out of the same boat. we caught anywhere from 150 to 300 walleyes a day for a 4 man crew so we had plenty to do with just jigging. biggest was 27" with many fish in the 19"-24" range and a billion fish in the 13"-16" range. we are headed back up in August for a week on the houseboat. I think I spotted your boat by the houseboat that was docked on the tip of taylor's island in that cove that is frequently used for shore lunch. was that you?

we had a great time and all the reports were outstanding. we only wish we could have found a few more bigger fish.

hope you found some monsters.

Hey Scon

We were around the corner on the East side of Taylor,

Our report is about the same, the big fish count was down from years past, but still had a fantastic bite. Can wait to get back. I never made windy, my best day was up in Tuk bay area, we found bigger fish in 5 fow and you got it.....in the weeds!

Let me know how your Aug trip goes
