A day at Chequamegon

Recommended Posts

A couple of friends and I made it over to fish the bay on saturday. This truly is an awesome fishery. We went there in search of smallmouths. We didn't catch as many smallies as we usually do, but we still managed a couple dozen. We sure caught some nice bonus fish. We caught six walleyes, 18 1/2 to 27 inches, some decent northerns, two dandy perch. It was just a great day of fishing. Everytime you make a cast you just don't know what you're gonna catch. I wish I had some more time to make it over there to fish, more than once a year. Here's a pic of me with a bronzeback and a pic of my buddy's nice eye.

Thats where we were fishing Jim. A 48" northern, now thats an awesome fish. How long do you think them walleyes will stay up in there? Also is that a good spot for night trolling? I forgot to mention the 27" and 25" walleyes went back into the bay for another day.

There is fish that will hang in there for awhile now. I would say until the end of this month or until temps get a little unbearable for them, in that 70 degree range or more. These fish then move out along that big flat towards Washburn and Long Island. Some probably already have.

Night trolling would be good in there right now. I havent gotten out there in awhile, as I have been concentraiting on some musky fishing this year a long with learning some new water. Let me know if you want to give it a shot, and we will go.
