Just wondering if anyone had any info on where a few good camping areas are.. I have been going to Kab for the past 6 years but have only camped one time at woodenfrog, the rest of the time we stay at a resort... We are planning on going up July 1st thru July 5th... Any info is appreciated

Other than Woodenfrog..I'm not sure about any other drive to camp sites..there are some really nice Island camp sites however...a good lake map should have them listed.

I don't know much about the camping areas on the west end of Kab as we stay in the Ash River area. There is a State Campgound on the Ash River Trail. (About $10 per night) No electric, but it has a pump for water and outhouses. They had lots of business on opening weekend. There is a public launch right there but it's about 20 minutes on the river in a no wake zone before you get to the lake. We use the Sunset Resort. They have campsites with water, electric, restrooms and showers. (About $30 per night) It's about 15 minutes to the lake. You could also trailer your boat 2 miles and use the public launch at the National Park. If you have a smaller boat and need to get off the water fast this is a good option.

Depending on the size of your boat and the number of people you are going with I strongly recomend camping on an island. It's FREE and you can get all the info at either one of the visitor centers. Many of the camp sites have boat docks if the shore is rocky. I camp every time I go to Kab and I am always amazed that not many people do it. Ferry your gear or crew if you need to and if you need bait, gas or groceries it is not far to the Gateway store from either boat landing or you can motor to one of the resorts on the lake. It is so convenient to be able to camp next to your own boat,I wouldn't do it any other way. The camp sites have picknick tables, pit toilets, bear proof boxes, fire grates and level raised bed tent pads. All campsites are first come, no reservations needed. You just need to fill out a permit form at either one of the visitor centers. Both visitor centers have lighted parking but the Ash River has alot of parking vs.the Kab visitor center. I use a 16' with a 40hp for two people and we have to ferry one trip when we bring a third person but be carefull how full you load your boat expecially on windy days.I started fishing Kab first by staying at a resort. If I would have had the little bit of info I have posted here I would have started camping on the lake much sooner in life. With the experience you have had on this lake this should be a breeze for you. And did I mention its free? Ken grin.gif

I agree with Wingnut, go with a island if you can. I have stayed at Ash river. The sites are pretty nice like Echotrail explained, but like Echo said it is a bit of ride to the lake in the no wake zone. As you travel through the no wake zone you pass a a resort where you can grab some gas, bait, beer or stop for a burger. All in all Ash is not bad.
