Eastern Wisconsin Fishing Report...Including Lake Michigan

Recommended Posts

Fishing this past week has really started to pick up again after a long cold couple of weeks.

Lake Winnebago is starting to produce walleyes. The most consistent bite has been in the Fond Du Lac area reefs in 4-10' of water. However the reefs all along the west shore are starting to produce fish. A consistent shallow water bite is taking place as well in the evening and into the night along rocky shorelines on the east shore and on the west side as well. Leeches and crawlers are the bait of choice.

Lake Poygan is giving up nice limits of walleyes, including some nice ones. The pike(many sightning of planner board disappearances) are really biting well and some large ones..40"+. The best action continues to come from trolling cranks off boards in 4-9' of water. Blues, perch and black/gold have been hot for me....especially blue!!

I haven't hit Lake Michigan as water temps are in the mid 40's along much of the lake from Manitowoc to Sturgeon Bay. Some reports of upper 40's are there on nice warm days. However many nice catches are being caught by the charters. A mixture of browns, lakers, coho's and even some kings are starting to show up. Shallow is still your best bet...20-80 feet of water with spoons and cranks on either downriggers or planner boards.

I hope to get out next week and will give a more personal report from the Kewaunee/Algoma area.

Good luck and have a safe Memorial Day weekend!

Nice report Hammer em... I am hoping to get over that way this year sometime... I fished Lake Michigan out of Sturgeon Bay for a summer when I worked at Whitefish Dunes State Park. Had some fun king, walleye, and smallie fishing.

Keep us posted.
