Perch Presentations

Recommended Posts

I need a way to make walleyes believe whats on the end of my line is truly a perch, without using a perch. I have to be able to present it about 3 feet above the weeds which are standing 3 ft off bottom in 15-17 feet so thats like 6 feet of the bottom, but It also has to be trolled at about 1 mile per hour or even less. I tried perch shads, mimic minnows, jigs twisters, bobber shiner, and couldn't get a walleye even though they were around me as far as the eye can see snapping at the perch left and right, thousands and thousands of perch I think they have all the food they could ever want. Very frustrating them aqua-views I tell ya, I was happier not knowing what was down there, like that eye that looked like a 20 pound carp with a white tip on the tale wow I could have cried. frown.gif

Vertical jig a storm ice fishing plastic or a lur jensen perch pattern jig with a minnow head on the treble just like ice fishing but move your boat real slow with the trolling motor so the line stays strait down. just like ice fishing but warmer and go slower then you think you should and the speed will be about right.

In your question you stated that the speed should be less than 1 mph. This could posibly be a case for your particular boat. Speed is very crutial when trolling with crankbaits. In this case maybe cranking the speed up with a crankbait might be the ticket to make your bait stand out and trigger a reaction bite. As a rule of thumb the colder it is the slower you should go. Manytimes in early morning speeds less than 1 mph may be suitable, in the heat of the day it may take speeds approaching 4 mph.

This may be something for you to try on your nest outing.
