Jim43
Decided to finally put that old Minkota 35lb thrust trolling motor to good use. I shortened the shaft on it by 10 inches. Its a 1976 model and still in good shape. Been in my storage room for 20 years. My Perception Keowee 2 has always been a fun recreational kayak, but for fishing its kinda tough to be paddling and fishing at the same time. Had some pvc board leftover from another project and put it to good use. Its lightwieght and weatherproof so it last. I have a few items to finish like making better washer mounts inside under the deck but overall its great. I made it so it could mounted on either side of the kayak depending upon what I am loading to take along. My son tends to take up a lot more room lately. LOL I have plans to make a battery box and some custom decking to hold my tackle box and bait plus cooler. Still have to work out the details on all that. On top of getting time from work, managing Garden Terrace apts is a huge job and I rarely get time away. On top of taking my son back and forth to school, thank god there are only a few days left. Jim43
Having experianced many problems carrying my Keowee 2 upside down on my van since the rack likes to indent the gunnels and make it look out of shape I decided to build a upright carrier for it. Had some old oak finished boards leftover from some of my renovation projects here I used them to make my carrier. All it cost me was $8 for the U-bolt hardware and anow all I have to do is put a couple layers of marine spar varnish on it. Took a couple days to put together and let the glue setup. Now its back to finishing the motor mount and getting the rest of the customizations done.
riverrat56
Jim, when you do get your kayak finished, lake sleepyeye is really kicking out the sunnys again if you want your boy to get into a few. They are alot better sized than in the winter also. Shorelines 5-8 ft was key last time out. Jig and anything worked, plastic, cralwer, minnow, whatever is eaiest would probally be best. Carrier looks good for the kayak, you should open up a buisness making custom kayak accessorys RR56

Hoping to get out some time this week before schools out to test it before taking my son out in it, want to be sure all of it works before loading him up. First things first, need head over and pick up my fishing license. Since packing up from ice fishing I just haven`t had much time, now I am into the mowing season and that takes the entire day alone.
