Livewell pump for a 1700 Alumacraft CS made in 1998

Scoot

Question

The livewell pump in my Alumacraft is sounding pretty dang bad. I tried to run it and pump it full of WD-40, but it still sounds pretty tough. If I remove the big, round screw on cap in the back of the boat I can see the pump, but man does it look like a mess trying to get in there to wrok on it. If I end up replacing this would I be wise to bring it in to have it replaced or is there a trick to doing this myself? There's no way I can get both hands in there to work on anything.

Once you remove that big retainer(PVC) nut off the outside of the boat the pump will come right out(to the inside of the boat).. it might take a little prying because it should be sealed with silicone.

The existing wire connection for the pump may be able to be easily accessed.. if not, find a spot you can access them and splice the new pump wires to the old ones.. be sure you have the polarity correct, and seal the new pump with silicone to avoid leaks.

The hardest thing is usually getting the hose off the pump.. they tend to stick a little... replacement pumps can be purchased at any marine dealer, or most larger sporting goods stores.

Good Luck... it shouldnt be too tough.
