ifishsd
GFP News:South Dakota Anglers Can Fish For Free May 20-22PIERRE, S.D. -- Friday May 20, through Sunday, May 22, are the dates for the three-day weekend that is one of South Dakota’s most anticipated and popular outdoor events - the annual South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Free Fishing Weekend. "What this means is that South Dakota’s resident and nonresident anglers have three days where they can fish for free," said GFP Information Officer John Forney.Another benefit of the three-day weekend is that state park and recreation area visitors can use park and recreation areas without being required to purchase a park entrance license. "More simply put," Forney said, "this is the opportunity for newcomers to try South Dakota’s outdoors, and another chance for avid outdoor enthusiasts to get outside and enjoy their favorite outdoor attraction."Some opportunities for anglers to consider would include the Missouri River, which comprises lakes Oahe, Sharpe, Francis Case and Lewis and Clark. These reservoirs offer anglers the chance for walleye, smallmouth bass, white bass or even channel catfish. Forney noted that another great angling option is the lakes in the eastern part of the state, which provide opportunity for yellow perch, northern pike and walleye.Looking to the west, folks can find approximately 800 miles of streams and 22 reservoirs in the Black Hills. Fisheries there provide excellent opportunities to catch brook, brown and rainbow trout. If Black Hills anglers need a little help, the Black Hills Fishing Guide is available from regional Game, Fish and Parks offices.
