All round Rod/Reel combo?

Recommended Posts

I know this topic has been put on here before... But i am looking at adding a new combo that can be use for most applications. I already have a jerkbait and and bucktail/topwater combo but do to the amount of people that will be fishing with me this year i want to add another to accomodate some of my friends........

With all of the new rods/reels that are out there i would appreciate some info.

If your looking for a rod to throw just about anything I would go with something like a 6'9", 7', 7'2" or 7'6" in either heavy or extra heavy action. Gander Mountain, St Croix, Fenwick and Fig Rig all make rods that would qualify for this. Any quality bait cast reel will work. Abu Garcia and Shimano to name a couple.

As much as we'd all like to spend $500.00 on all our rod and reel combos, a diamond back with the Calcutta 400TE isn't within most anglers budgets.

I would recommend a rod in the $80 to $100 range and perhaps a Abu 6500c3 for the reel. They run about $80 depending on where and when you buy it.

Fig Rig, Shimano, Fenwick, Gander MT and Bass Pro shops Pet Maina signature series, are all good over the counter muskie rods. Pick up a heavy to Xtra heavy 7 or 7.6 rod and it should handle most

situations.

PS. Keep your head down over there, so you can go fishing when you get back. grin.gif

Thanks for all of the info guys. My dates for leave just got finalized so i will be pounding the water by June 20th!!! We are staying at our annual cabin on Women lake so we will primarily be fishing the Hackensack area. Keep up the good posts! It is nice to read about especially since i am stuck in Baghad. Good Luck on opener!!!!
