My personal best Smallie!!! :)

I went out on Pool 6 yesterday afternoon after work. I started pitching to fallen timber in a little channel for a bit, but no luck. Then I moved to the rip-rap along the railroad tracks in the back waters. On my second pitch with my black-blue jig-n-pig I felt a thump, I set the hook and knew it was big. It came up to the top and I about crapped my pants when I saw her. I almost lost her at the boat when the jig got stuck on the side of the boat when I went to swing her in. (should have netted her) She was like a huge football!!! 18.25 inches long, 6 inches “deep” and weighed 4.1 pounds on the digital. She had the body shape of a sheep head, it was unreal how thick she was!! It didn’t look like she had a belly full of eggs, but maybe she did. I wish I had my camera and that someone was with me. So I just held her for a bit and then let her go. This was also my first smallie of the year.

The surface temps in the back waters are over 60 degrees, it shouldn't be long before they are spawning. Almost all the bass i have caught in the last week have been very shallow (mostly largies). All of the activity has been in flooded grassy areas with timber. Most of the fish have been on black/blug jig'n'pig. A few have been caught on white buzz bait.
