TNFL
When is a good time to start trolling? Are the Pike Scattered deep and shallow when the season opens? Or are they on shallow weed flats where casting is a better option?

Quackaddict9
a few years back I was focused on Northerns and went out on the opener in 2000 with a friend of mine and we did well trolling by the weedline with Husky Jerks in 8-12 ft of water and we pulled out a nice 44 incher musky. It was on Cass Lake. I remember it was a cold, windy day and a great morning of fishing out on the lake.
TNFL
So your saying after May 14th the best bet to pick up pike is to troll.?
Quackaddict9
I'm no expert, But I've had alot success trolling for pike all summer long, with daredevils and jerks. It could be a good option to start with on opener (thats what i would do). Then if your not doing well, try casting by weedline, cabbages with jerkbaits, spoons and spinnerbaits. Hope that helps you.
