Trolling the Weedline?

When is a good time to start trolling? Are the Pike Scattered deep and shallow when the season opens? Or are they on shallow weed flats where casting is a better option?

a few years back I was focused on Northerns and went out on the opener in 2000 with a friend of mine and we did well trolling by the weedline with Husky Jerks in 8-12 ft of water and we pulled out a nice 44 incher musky. It was on Cass Lake. I remember it was a cold, windy day and a great morning of fishing out on the lake.

I'm no expert, But I've had alot success trolling for pike all summer long, with daredevils and jerks. It could be a good option to start with on opener (thats what i would do). Then if your not doing well, try casting by weedline, cabbages with jerkbaits, spoons and spinnerbaits. Hope that helps you. smile.gif
