Battery Placement

Gatores

Question

I have a 16 ft boat with a 24 v bow mount trolling motot. My question is can I put the 2 trolling motor batteries in the back of the boat. This is an older crestliner with no battery storage in the front so just wondering if I would have any trouble with the wires having to be so long and any other problems that might happen. Thanks in advance to any help.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you use sufficient gauge wire. If you use 6-ga wire it should be fine for a 24-v circuit, if there are any doubts you could step up to 4-ga, but 6 should be OK.

Be sure to put a fuse or circuit breaker as close as possible to the battery just in case. 6-ga wire can deliver a lot of current if there is ever a short circuit...

Two batteries add quite a bit of weight. Be sure to consider the additional weight and the effect it will have on how the boat sits. I'm assuming it's a tiller and two batteries in back plus you would make for some real mushy high bow holes shots. All the other posts offered sound advice.
