Deep_Sinker
Can anyone help me determine the pros/cons of the color lcd screens versus the gray scales? Which one is better? Any better from the angle? better in bright sun? Thanks!
0 PerchJerker
I just bought a Lowrance color unit this year. I liked my old Lowrance a lot but decided it was time to upgrade -- the changes over the last few years, even the last 2 years, are really amazing.First, the new color screens are not LCD - they are TFT (Thin Film Transistor). It's newer technology - you can view it just fine in the daylight and from the side, and it works much better in the cold than LCD. My friends that have used them for a year or more are very impressed. The color display is supposed to be better at revealing fish tight to the bottom or hiding in cover. And it's supposed to be easier/better for determining bottom hardness and transition zones. If you're looking at getting a gps/sonar unit the gps features have really come a long ways - mapping, built in background maps, card reader slots, etc.Hope some of this helps - good luck. 0 Captain B.R.K
Right from Lowrance: "COLORLINE™ helps separate fish and important structures on or near the bottom from the actual bottom. Since more active-feeding fish hold close to hard bottoms and structures, COLORLINE™ helps you find more potentially productive water quickly. By comparing color and width you can distinguish between a hard and soft bottom."What does that mean to you? Yes, all of the Lowrances have the above feature but with color units, depending on the size of the fish you will have it show up as a blue or red. So when you are sizin' up fish that are close to the bottom, you will be able to seperate fish with structure, etc. With grayscale, it will be a bit harder to differentiate those fish and structure close to the bottom. The fish will show up either light or dark arches and can disguise themselves into the bottom. Also depending on the sensitivity you have it set at, those suspended fish could be lost in the grayness of the screen. The newer color screens are suitable for those hot, glaring days under the sun and does not make it hard to view the screen. You will be able to see the screen from all viewing angles.I also did some homework by putting both the lowrance color and grayscale units together........sharper, crisp looking screen w/color units. You pay more, but I think is well worth the extra $$$ when you are spending that kind of money anyway.
