Pheasant population

Recommended Posts

Was wondering how the Pheasants are doing in your area. Seams they are going to be pretty good here in NE Montana. Have been seeing some along the roads after a very open winter. CAJ

I would bet that no response is a good sign. People are much more willing to tell you that there aren't any birds around. They get kind of tight lipped when the population is up. grin.gif

Looks good for the birds in NE Montana. Have been spending a lot of time looking in the last week. Good from High way 5 south to the river alond highway 16 to the river at Culbertson. Large area to pick from. The Block Management areas are getting bigger to. Open to public huinting for all. They are going to plant a lot of birds again this year to try and get the population back up again. CAJ

Update on Pheasants and Sharptail Grouse. Have been out in the feild a lot this last week, and have found a very good numbber of Sharptails in the Ne corner of Montana near Scobey Montana, and a lot of Birds, Pheasants in Sheridan County around Dagmar , Medicine Lake and Froid Montana. Lots of open Block Management areas to walk for a lot of miles. This is big open country with a lot of nice people to deal with, without paying big money per gun to hunt. CAJ

I talked to some land owners over there, and they said the birds are there. They are starting to tighten up on the acess to huint unless you pay. when they make me pay to walk on there land I will go do something else. CAJ

The Block management program is bigger this year than last year in our area. The hunter signs in at a sign inbooth, and the farmer will get paid from the state for every hunter that signs in. It is a great program for the hunters and the farmers. I think they get 8 dallors a day for every hunter that signs in. You can get a Blockmanagement map from the Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks office. I dont know there Email off hand, but shouldn'r be to hard to find. CAJ
