Lakers and my LX3

Recommended Posts

Well, I fished lakers on Sunday for the first time with my LX-3. I was in 50' of water and keeping my jig at about 44'-45'.

Our first stop produced a fish within 5 minutes of dropping a line. The LX 3 lit up right away with several large red blips taking a look at the tube. It wasn't long before one committed and we had a fish on. I was able to use the zoom to my advantage, as I was fishing fairly close to the bottom.

All day, I had lookers and every once in a while, a taker. But boy is that fun, knowing you've got a 5-10 lb trout taking a look at your jig...Red blip = excitement and hang on!

Towards the end of the day, I was marking fish right on the bottom in about 32' of water. I lightened up my tackle a bit assuming they might of been walleyes. After working them and missing a couple bump bump bump, I realized they were perch. Caught one and it was about 3.5" long. Again, impressed with the sensitivity of the flasher to pick up little fish like that down 32'.

All in all 4 lakers caught, two back down the hole and two for the bbq..... and one nice suntan.

hemlock - we picked up a couple a piece for the four of us on sunday and the same on sat. lots of lookers but not many takers. the few we did clean on sun. were full of minnows. I am guessing they bit like mad earlier last week! - No huge fish this year - biggest was a 24"

Dirtking, you weren't at Cigar Island/Horseshoe around 2:00 PM, 4 snowmobiles for a while, then two took off to Russell, and the other two followed about 25 minutes later? If that was you, I was fishing the north tip of cigar island at that time. I also thought I saw the same crew loading up at Maple Leaf around 7:00 PM Sunday.

Our biggest was 28" Fought like a pig. The other three I iced Sunday were all 24-25...didn't check out their bellies.

Yes hemlock that was us - both times actually / Cigar Island/Horseshoe and at the Maple Leaf. We didn't have near the luck on that end of the lake - we were doing better down closer to Diner. My dad and I are heading back up to LOTW (south shore) next weekend for the final hurrah of ice fishing. Last year we came up (Sioux Narrows) with the boat the day after ice out - fun trip! Don't know if that'll work out this year - but until then have good fishing in your beautiful country.

Ahh, I thought that could've been you. With one of your sleds being bright red, it kinda looked like a Canadian rig wink.gif I should've stopped over and said hello. Dinner was better was it? We were short on time and stayed close to home. As stated earlier, the LX3 was lit up almost all day, with a fish every once in a while to keep us happy.

I'm done ice fishing for the year. I've got a boat that needs some work before she gets put in for 6 months.

Hemlock,

you talk about getting your boat ready, Do you guide?

You sound very smart when it comes to fishing in Canada,

I sure would like to fish with you sometime. Do you have a price sheet so I can get a feel for what it would cost me? US funds please, I am not very good at converting.

Thank you

Kay

Kay...thanks for the compliments blush.gif

Just getting the community/family boat ready for another 6 months of sitting in the water. I use it the most, so I do the most work to it. I'm not a guide. If you are in need of one, let me know.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
