Question

HELLO. HAD A PROBLEM LAST SEASON WITH THE PUSHBUTTON START ON THIS MOTOR...PUSH IN THE BUTTON (TO START) AND NOTHING (GOOD BATTERY) - THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WOULD BE OK AND BE OK FOR THE REST OF THE DAY (I BELIEVE IT IS THE ORIGNAL STARTER ON THE MOTOR)...ANYONE ELSE RUN INTO THIS PROBLEM...ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN BOAT IS LAUNCHED, NEVER AFTER...

Corrosion on the contacts of the push button is the first thing i'd check.You could try and by-pass the push button and see if it starts right up. if it does then you need a new push button.I think I would convert it over to key start.less problems.

Since it's a tiller be sure you have the gear shift lever right in the middle (neutral), otherwise it won't start motor.

Sometimes push button and wiggle gear shift lever a little, it does help.

I concur with Valv. Have the same motor on a boat and the safety switch is worn out, gotta move the shifter while the button is compressed.

If not that, a new starter button assembly may be the culprit or there must be a safety switch that engages with the shifter somewhere?? Never that problem on a '89 Johnson 60.
