Trout Opener (Conditions)

Chicago boy

Recommended Posts

Thinking baout making the trip for opener. Not sure as I have a 6+ hr. exam then a 6+ hr drive to the root. I know it is a few weeks out, but what are streams like? We normally fish the S. Branch of the Root.

I will be making the annual pilgramage from Chicago and desperately need to get away.

Truth be told, unless a monsoon comes, I'll probably make the trip. I'm just amped up now so I thought I would solicit some local intel.

Thanks,

MN. boy living in Chicago now. confused.gif

It's a really tough call for the 16th being that it's still two weeks away...

Basically, unless we get a deluge right before the opener, streams and rivers including the Root will be just fine for fishing.

Have a good trip home! I hope it pans out for you...it looks like it should.

Keep an eye on the forecast... cool.gif

Chicago boy welcome to FM!

Just have a backup plan like hitting a few lakes for some crappies. Like WxGuy said the most important thing is to keep an eye on the forecast. Good luck and have fun.

Regardless of the weaather, streams have cleared nicely and the spring creeks are clear and clean. Worse case in the event of rain is to hit some smaller, lesser known waters. They'll be fishable regardless.

I was out this weekend and the larger streams just had a slight tint except when the ATV's were running up and down the stream. I looked at the 24 hr. precipitation map (7AM Mon - 7AM Tue) and it looks like Olmsted and fillmore counties received just less than an inch of rain. It was a nice light rain whenever I looked so most of it should have soaked in.

Here's a link to area Rainfall Totals

This was a great rain for the area. Just enough to get things growing again without flooding or blown out streams. smile.gif

There's rain in the forecast for the opener, but we'll see how that goes. I don't think it'll be enough to get excited about or keep you from fishing most of the day.
