Nicked up vexilar cable

ssaamm

Question

Hello, I mount a Vexilar transducer off of my trolling motor when I am not ice fishing. When I took it off in the fall, I noticed an inch or so long bare spot in the cable- probably from the prop. There appears to be no bare wire at this point. I can see a gray layer underneath. Does anyone have any suggestions to patch this up? Shoe goo? electrical tape? a melted plastic worm? Thanks.

Go to Home Depot or Menards and pick up some of the stretchy sticky electrical tape mde by 3M. I have used the 1.5 inch wide stuff to repair a cable tv line that I cut in two with a power edger. No issues with the slice at all. I don't know the model number. Its incredibly waterprooof and will seal out any moisture or water.

Good luck.

I have always used electrical tape too.. it works fine. Just be sure to get it on very tight and a couple layers thick... I'll even warm it up with a lighter after to be sure it fuses well. I have never had a problem where I have made the repair.

If you see *grey* on the inside of the cable now, that is probably the insulation for the inner wire, you may have already lost some of the outer wire.
