Rip_Some_Lip
I did a search and found some choices as far as what brand people prefer. I have never used them but have thought about buying a couple and trying this year.My question is does anyone have a link that shows how to use them and what kind of setup (rod and reel) to use with them. Im just loooking for a general type of rod and reel, not a specific brand. My buddy has a baitcaster and rod I may buy from him. Also, what kind of line would you recommend? Thanks for the info in advance.
walleyewacker
Before I go any further, I would recomend the offshore boards with tattle flags for various reasons. Just get a 8'6" or so medium trolling rod and a baitcaster, should get a line counter I you plan on trolling alot. The set up is pretty self explanatory, clip the line to the front clip, leave a little slack, clip to the back one. Best advice for using boads is never use them unless you really have to..... cyberamish
I would ditto the rod/setup info from WW. For line I use braided, (Power Pro or Stren Braided) I've found it works much better than mono. I've used Offshores and Yellow Birds and the Offshores work great! I will run the in-line boards on real calm days or when I have only one or two lines running. Otherwise I go to the mast and dual runners. Also, if you go to Fleet Farm (or maybe Gander / Cabelas) they have the little booklets from Luhr Jensen called Tech Tips. They are free and usually in with the trolling gear (Dipsy's, J-Plugs, etc) I am pretty sure they have one that deals with planers and set ups. abens1078
Do a Google search. In the Search bar type in "Planer Boards".When it gives the first page of hits, scroll to the bottom and you should see an article from the Walleye Insider archives. This article contains a couple of diagrams that should help you get the feel of what you are accomplishing. I'd post the link but I don't want to risk getting your thread burned, I will post it if I get the go ahead.
steel24
I would go with off-shore planer boards and for rod and reel I would go with Bass Pro Shop 8-6 rod with line counter reels. Also Cabelas has good combo rod/reels for this application. I personally own both and like the Bass Pro instead. the combo price I believe is $89.00 Good Luck!!
