Remove left side console from Sylvan 16 Pro Select?

Whoaru99

Question

I've got a Sylvan 16 Pro Select (dual console w/ walkthrough windshied) and was wondering how difficult it would be to convert the boat to a single side console or if it would not be a good idea at all.

Sure, on some occasions the full windshield is nice to have, but it just seems that it would be easier to fish and more roomy as just a single side console.

I've looked for screws, rivets, etc and some indication how it is attached but don't really see too much. I don't want to start cutting back the carpet to find out that it is some huge project I don't really want to tackle. I sent an e-mail to Sylvan, but they just gave me the "see you dealer..." routine. The boat is a either a 94 or 95 model, don't remember exactly off the top of my head.

Thoughts?

We remove dozens of these each year. It's something you you can handle if you take your time. You will probably have to pull up the carpet around the base. It should either be attached to the floor with machine screws, or to one of the aluminum runners with rivets. As for the sidewall, usually it will attach with rivets, however sometimes depending on the sidewall design, some of the rivets may go through the exterior, in which case you will have to replace them or you'll have holes in your boat. You will want to watch how the sidewall handles big water, cause you will be removing a big source of support for that side. It may be neccesary to build some kind of storage unit that attaches the sidewall to the floor to replace the support.
