Hunting other states besides the Dakota's?

Recommended Posts

Any one hunt waterfowl in say Iowa,Nebraska,Kansas, or down south?

My group is looking into Nebraska now, it is as far of a drive for us as it was to Nodak land so we thought we would look at their state.

Lisence is half that of the Dakota's and you can hunt the whole season.

I don't know about any other states yet, so please pipe in on some pointers as to these other great states to hunt waterfowl.

SE Iowa, in the river bottom area, has alot of ducks. My parents moved down to Quad CIties several years ago and everytime I go down there it just amazes me how many are down there. There are some decent WMA's in the Dubuque area in river country. I hunted muzzle loader deer on one that was right on one of the feeder rivers, bluff country. It's funny, most of the hunters in Iowa don't seem to have interest in chasing waterfowl down there but as soon as you go accross the river into Illinois there are tons of duck hunters.

My old neighbor and I were planning a trip to Iowa for white tails one year. But his uncle who we planned to stay with "got a little funny" about him bringing an outsider along. So I never made the trip.

My group has given that state a lot of thought, as it is close and has enough game of all kinds to keep us busy when not in the duck blind.

Thanks for the insight.

Those Southern states are like us here, lots of familly tradition in the hunting world.

They have a lot of area set aside to hunt as well.

Will have to give them a look to see what the lisences cost and the regulations pertaining to waterfowl and upland.

Benny, I grew up in N.E Iowa and had the mississippi out my back door! The waterfowling was usually great except for when the weather was nice to long and we didn't get new birds for awhile. The whole river bottom is public so there are many miles of area to find a spot to yourselves. You just need to get familiar with the area during daylight and know where refuge and state lines are. The closer to the refuges the more people you'll run into. The cost of a liecence is around a $100 for the whole season. There is usually a good walleye bite around the dams in the fall if the ducks don't cooperate. The duck hunting is about the only thing I miss about living there! Let me know when you'll be up at Agate bay this summer and I can fill ya in on some of the details.

Later, Eric

I will be at Agate Bay for Memorial weekend for sure, then again when the night ban comes of in June,And again for the 4th of July.

I can't remember the other dates we booked last year, but would welcome the company for some brews and hunting stories.
