They are still around. Lots of honkers also. The snows are all mixed up with the honkers.

Try a little north and west of me for the best action. Lake Sarah, Hadley, Woodstock area seems to be the bigger flocks.

There are geese on Lime lake in Avoca also, but not NEAR as many as the other places I just told ya about.

I may or may not be out there. I pretty much won't know until Saturday. Feel free to drop an e-mail and if I can get out I will. boilerguy_1 at yahoo dot com.

We should be good, from the looks of it right now we will be south of the storm(as of right now).

I got a report from a friend and he said they are thick in the area we are headed to. He went through there yesterday on his way to SD.

Storm tracks just right we could see a mother load.

Just got off the phone with the same friend and they are 1 hour straight west of where we are going and he said it is sick how many birds they are seeing. They are on a field over looking a lake that has open water and is holding AT LEAST 100,000 snows as I type this. They are decoying the birds and as of right now they have 35 birds on the ground. He said if they could shoot they would have about 80.

He held his phone up and I could hear them things making there noise. What a sweet sound.

Key, find open water and a field near by.

I know where we will be. smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

Even if we get snow down there, as long as there is open water(and there is where we are headed) it should still be good and the birds will turn stupid.

Mr.wizard you got mail(soon)

We will be in a green suburban with a trailer with a green tarp on it.

We will be decoying the birds.

superfish- I meant to give you a call on that thursday we were tentatively gonna head down there, but I was down in the cities at the girls state bball tourney so I couldn't get near a computer. My sister's team ended up taking 3rd in state so we were in the gym up until saturday afternoon. I read your report and its good you at least saw snow geese.

I'd love to get down there next weekend ( 26th and 27th). If anyone has any reports keep em comin. I would be game to stop off in Avoca and put down a few beers (I guess I'm a horse)haha.

I was down that way yesterday and didn't see many at all. Thousands of dark geese and ducks, a few hundred snows. I visited lots of the places you guys mentioned- lake benton, lake sarah, shetek- saw very few birds. I'm just curious as to the hunting of snow geese in MN and where exactly big concentrations are. If anybody would like, please email me with what you find/areas you know are holding a lot of birds. I don't want your hotspots or anything-like I said, I am just interested because I put on 660 miles yesterday and saw few snows. It was my first time snow goose hunting, so maybe I didn't do it right? Next time I would be able to get out is in a week, so I wouldn't be stealing your spots this weekend or anything. I'm just very curious where the birds are/where people are hunting. I was in the area from lake hendricks SE to Sarah/Shetek, SW towards Luverne then West and then back up to Hendricks. Was I not in a good area? I loved just getting out and exploring a new area. Like I said, if anybody has any info they would like to pass on to a curious guy, I would appreciate it.

I'm sittin here at work bumming out knowing some other fellas will be out hunting. frown.gif

Having said that, I just want yous guys to know that I live about 30 miles due west of where I work. It took me about 2 hours to get in this morning in my big bouncy loud 83 chev 4 wheel drive truck. DOT pulled the plows off the roads last night and, HOLY dump, driving was a small adventure.

If I were some of the fellas talking about driving down this way, I'd wait for the plows to get out and do some damage or you may not make it. Lots of snow and wind in the prairie right now and it would really suck to hear of someone stranded on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere.

Supposed to let up later on today then the plows can get out and bust everything open.

We made it out but for nothing. Long story short, found birds friday set up saturday on the north end of the lake(in a field) that the birds where in on friday and saturday morning come day break we watched every single bird leave the lake out the west side headed towards SD.

Go figure.

A lot of canadas, cracklers and specs in the area.

We worked a couple flocks of greaters(canadas) so that was fun to watch and due. Proved to myself that I can call canadas. smile.gif

Boilerguy, are there huntable numbers of birds in your area? What is the snow cover looking like? I heard its supposed to warm up to the 50s over the next couple days so hopefully that will get things moving again.

Anyone with a tip on where there are some snows please post up.

thanks
