caster
I am in the market for a new sonar graph and have narrowed down my decision to two models. Both have 480v pixels (good resolution), but one is color at 2400w power and one is black&white at 4000w power. I am trying to decide on color vs. power. I am trying to decide if I will be sacrificing target separation by going with the color/2400w model. I know this depends on how deep we are talking, but the deepest water I will see is 120 ft. gspman
Get the color one. 2400 watts is more than enough and the color will help you see fish you'd never see with a black and white grayscale finder. I'm no expert but I think target separation is more a function of the receiving end of the tranducer. Maybe someone with more smarts in this area can clarify. andy j
caster,This is what power does for a unit. The more power the better the depth capabilities, better for higher speeds, and also is critical for marking fish when you are driving your boat around. The lower power units mark fish well when you are not moving or moving slow, but if you speed up then you can't mark fish as well as a unit with higher power. I do know some pro's that use high power units to find fish with a faster more aggressive aproach. Hope this helps, I don't think it is a night and day difference between 320 or 480 pixils. But I would at go for a unit that at least has 320 Vertical pixils. Hope this helps. Andy
Feldy
Caster I'm no expert either but I stepped up to a color unit this year and I can actually see fish that I couldn't on my other unit. It is much more appealling to stare at for long periods of time and the color makes more sense of what the signal is telling you. THe different colors show stronger and weaker signals like night and day. Personally I think 2400 is plenty for the depths to fish walleye. Might not be able to go full speed and pick them up but the trade off for color is well worth it.
caster
Thank you for your input. I appreciate the feedback. I am leaning toward color, but I didn't want to give up too much from a power standpoint.
