Stream trout tackle

I'm planing on doing some fly fishing in SE Minnesota this year and will have my family along who don't fly fish. I have them rigged up with light and ultralight gear with spools wound up with 2lb test line. I know that some streams have regulations regarding live bait and the use of treble hooks. My question is what would be a good selection of tackle to have on hand for stream trout. I'm thinking the 0 and 1 size Mepps, plain hooks and night crawlers or leeches where legal, anything else?

Steve,

If your family is experienced with the stream then you ideas are fine. However, Iwould encourage 4-6 pound line for spinners and raps. You get to light and backlash becomes a significant problem.

ALso, I would go a bit larger with the spinners and raps.

1. Easier to cast and manage in the stream.

2. Being a semi-experienced stream fisherman, I use only #9 and #11 rapalas and #3 meps.

Granted , gauge your tackle for the size of water you attack. If you can jump acrossed it, I would stick to the air light approach.

Feel free to come to either the 5th Annual Trout Day or the FLy fishng gathering on Trout Run that weekend.

Plenty of sound advice on both appliacations.

Jim

Two gatherings on the same day? Ok, I suppose there are other types of poetry.

Don't forget the plastics. A single hook which is good and far less expensive if you catch a lot of trees smile.gif
