Merc XR6 vs. Optimax

Daze Off

Question

Am thinking of buying a new boat that has a 150 Merc XR6 and am wondering how different that would be from an Optimax of the same HP? What differences would be noticeable - performance? Fuel economy? etc.

Thanks for your help

XR6 is a carb motor, Optimax is High Pressure fuel injection.

Performance will be better with Opti and also fuel economy.

Price will be much cheaper with XR6.

The Opti-max will be quite a bit better on fuel and oil consumption. As far as performance the difference in top end is close. One thing you may want to think of is resale, yes the Opti is more money but when it comes to selling the boat I think it would be easier to sell with the Opti.

I do not have any experience with the EFI or the XR6, but I do have a 150 Optimax. I purchased it last July on an Alumacraft 175CS Tournament Pro. I really like it! The motor is quiet, fast, and efficient! Although, I am not sure of the exact top speed, I didn't get a gps 'til Christmas. I can't wait for spring!!!!
