auger help

juggs

Recommended Posts

Had a issue over the weekend. The auger wouldn't start-wasn't getting spark. So I pulled the plug and the gap was covered with gas. Dried it off, cleaned it up, put her back in. Two pulls later I pulled the plug out again and it was dripping wet with gas. Tried all choke settings. Let it sit for a long time. Never got any spark. Any suggestions as to what the problem is and a quick fix-it solution??

Are you saying it did not have spark because you saw the plug was wet or did you have the plug out, connected to the plug wire and touching the motor while pulling the cord?

It's really hard to tell you what the issue is without looking at the motor. Check it over for bad connections. If you don't find anything, I'd suggest taking it to your local small engine repair shop.

The connections all appeared to be good. The spark plug was getting flooded with gas. I would pull the cord a few times to no avail, then pull the plug out to check it. Other than the gas dripping off it, the plug looked good. My guess is it's a problem with the gas line or something controlling the flow of gas to the cylinder.

Are you sure your not getting any spark? Try pulling the plug out and holding up to something metal on the head, pull the starter cord and watch for spark. Make sure your not touching the plug by anything other than the rubber connector or you may get a little jolt!

ozzy, that's a great possibility. I've had on/off switches go out on me before. Definatley something to look at if you are not getting any spark at all.

Before you worry about the fuel, you have to make sure there is spark. Do like the previous posted stated: pull the plug, hold it to the metal cylinder head so it makes ground and pull the rope. If you can't see spark, change the plug, if that doesn't work take a look at the switches and any other electrical components. Any small engine shop should be able to help if you are unable to narrow it down. D-Rock in New Brighton helped me out greatly when I broke down this winter. Good luck.

It could be just a fouled spark plug. Go buy a new one and before you put it in hold the auger with the spark plug end low and pull the cord a few times. This will get any extra gas out of the cylinder so you won't just foul the plug again. I always have one extra plug and a wrench with me when I go fishin. If the new plug fouls again then you have no spark. What kind of auger is it and how old is it?
