Marking depth w/ 2lb line

While fishing for sunfish w/ 2lb line, I like to mark bottom someway. Tried bobber stops (string) and the smallish rubber ones. The 'string' stops are too bulky and the rubber stops slip when you catch a 'gill. Any suggestions? Thanks

Try making a reference on the line with a pointed magic marker. I like to do it up near the line roller on the reel and it stays drier for a bit longer.

I use the plastic bober stops that you thread your line through and mark the bottom with the tip of my pole then put the stop down by the reel and it don't get caught in the eyelets and slide when you reel up. Newoodhntr

Thanks, that helps a lot...it sounds like the key is to put the marker, knot, plastic, et al., near the reel....
