toops22
Hey guys, I will be heading out to Waubay with a group of guys on Feb 17,18,19,20, and the 21st. I am the youngest of the group at only 15 and the closest in age is about 21 so i would love to show all the big guys up by catching more and bigger fish. So would anyone be willing to help with lures, presentations, are they catching anything with tipups, about how deep are you getting the fish, things like that. Plain reports would be nice also. It doesnt have to be anything special, just to give me an idea. Thanks for the help everyone.
JerknPerchSD
I've had great luck on Waubay all winter. The key is to just keep moving. The fish are usually so schooled up that you can be catching them one after another and someone 15 feet away can't graph a fish. Keep moving, drill lots of holes, pay close attention to the vex, and stay away from the masses. My 1st choice of a lure would be a gold genz worm with waxies or colored euros. Stay away from the heaves.Andy
kevfish
Seems like the smaller jigs have been working better this year. They are also biting lighter this year than in years past. Lime green color has been good for me. Good Luck

aquafang
Had good luck with a yellow and orange genz worm. A chartruese pounder is good also. both with maggots or waxies. And use a very light rod and line. I use noodle rods and 2 to 3 lb. test. most of the time you see your rod bend and not feel it. So, if it's windy and you're outside it can be tricky. Very light bite!Good luck.
Muskeez
If you don't have a noodle rod make sure you have a spring bobber on your rod and stay tight to the bottom. If you have a vexilar or markum you can try to coax them off the bottom when you see them come in. Sometimes they'll grab it as you are raising it up away from them. Also if it's not too cold do a lot of hole hopping with just a bucket and one rod (and a vex.) so you can move quickly to old holes left by others. Have fun!
