Eskimo Auger BROKE!!!

moby1

Question

So i'm out on lake sarah with mr special, timl, loc9 this morning. My blades were dull so used specials eskimo barracuda. I drilled about 15 holes and the last one seemed to finish funny. Quit drilling and fished. A while later Special says "hay what did you do to my auger". I didnt notice because it was dark 5:30am but the brace that goes from the blade area to a few inches up the shaft snapped. This caused one blade to rotate so instead of the two blades being on opposite side of the auger bottom they are side by side!!!! The one rotated around until it was stopped by the other. It broke the support and peeled the bottom of the shaft around. If I knew how I would post a pic. I should have stuck to my dull chipper blade. Looks like Im going to have to spend some $$$. Wonder if eskimo would help me out????

Hey moby1...

If you don't think the break was caused by operator error..... (No offense moby, I'm not railin' on ya here. "stuff" happens to everybody.) If the auger is relatively new, give the retailer a shot to make things right. Usually a retailer worth their salt will do what they can... If you strikeout, take your problem straight to Eskimo... Forget emails as a first contact. Start out with a phone call.. Then if needed, email the pictures to them.

Equipment "failures", whatever the cause, can be a very taxing to your temper. Keep the dialogue friendly and up-beat. Show them you're willing to work WITH them to resolve problem rather than sounding like someone looking for a handout.

I've never had to deal with Eskimo so can't give you any insight there, however, keep us posted. I'd really like to know the final outcome.

Good luck...

Sounds like a weld falure. Take a close look at the weld and see if it had proper penitration or if it was partialy cracked. If it was partialy cracked before part of the weld should look "rusty".

Odds are good they will replace the whole lower auger and cover the shipping too. I would push the service dept for that anyhow.

Someone i know broke the re-wind rope on their 2 yr. old auger they called manufacturer. They sent him a whole new assembly, he sent the old assembly back to them in the box they sent. And they paid shipping. All this took 3 days. (for a broken rope), these companies need good reviews so they will replace it for free i'm sure.

I was having some problems with my new Eskimo. I called their customer service and after a couple of suggestions didn't work they just sent me a new carburetor. They are easy to deal with and like to keep their customers happy.

Eskimo has EXCELLENT customer service.

Call them direct or find them on the net and they'll reply quickly and professionally via email. I've worked with them twice regarding portables in the past. They're very responsive ! They replaced a 3yr old canvas free of charge last year for me.

They're owned by ARDISAM . If you do a search, you'll find them.

Good luck !

Not only are they replacing the auger for free, to save shipping, the customer service rep I talked to has to come to st paul to get skis waxed and hair cut. She is bringing be a new one to Joes sporting goods next Monday !!! It doesnt get much better than that!

two thumbs up!!!!!

I did drop the fact that I just bought a eskimo stingray the night before that was still in the box:+)
