Only difference I found is price. I've owned two MrH and the Pauline I have now. I'm pretty rough on them. They'll both corrode to heck after a while but way dependable and versatile. One's cheaper and you know which already.

I got the MrH and tried it out last night. When I bought it, the guy told me I wouldn't have any problems running it off an 11lb tank so I bought the mr heater hose and the 11lb tank as well. Well, after I lit the element, I turned it on its back and after a couple of minutes, noticed a light green flame 6 inches high. It would do this off and on for about 10 mins. I turned the knob on the heater to off and a flame shot out the back through that little hole and the knob and hose caught on fire. Thought I was gonna die. Anyway, my buddy who owns a Paulin just laughed at me said that is why you get a Paulin. Guess what I am going to do now.

Good luck on the ice!

I'm surprised to hear of your experience.. I've had trouble after I got my propane tank filled where it launched flames above the guard until the excess pressure was bled off.

The other thing I've heard of happening is that if your new propane tank isn't purged, or purged properly you get pressure pulses similar to what you are explaining.

I can't say that I've ever heard of the flames coming out the holes toward the control valve though... yikes!

I have both and like the angle of the Paulin a little better-it points up more so you don't get as much heat right on the floor. I usually have to prop up the Mr. Heater to keep it from melting the floor of my ice shack.

I saw a paulin on Saturday at the burntside bash.. the one thing that I really like about the paulin is the screen / grill on the unit.. the one on my cooker gets bent and falls off really easily... I think I spend more time adjusting the grill more than I do using it to heat / cook something...

I was kinda freaked out when the knob and hose caught on fire. The tank was new and the place I got it filled, first purged it and then filled it up. The reason why I assumed it was the heater was because I hooked up goin fishin's Paulin right after this happened and no flames above the grill and no flames shooting out the back either. So I borrowed the Paulin on my trip to Mille Lacs and had no problems with flame ups or flames out the back. I don't know what happened but glad no one got hurt.
