You just caught an 18 pound walleye! The new state record. Besides the knowledge that you are the greatest fisherman in Minnesota and luck had nothing to do with it. Can you make any money from it? Should you make any money from it? How would you make money from it?

I think your best bet is to hope for a few tackle companies to take notice and send you some goodies. You may be able to sell the fish depending on state laws. Iowa says they will pay for the taxidermy but they get to display it for one year. Some bait shops local to the area where your trophy is caught may also offer free taxidermy if they can display the fish as well.

Sometimes just catching a big fish with a certain lure is enough to get you noticed. The Mepps Company and Mister Twister always used to publish catalogs to sell their lures and the catalogs contained color photos of satisfied customers. My uncle caught a 15lb. Northern on a Mepps about 15 years ago and he had his picture in the catalog and received 2 of the "Giant Killer" lure kits with the year's newst models of spinners.

Sorry for the rambling, I should have just said you won't make a killing unless you do it consistently and then you are called a pro and its your job...
