Snowplows ?

ScottND

Question

What does a plow have to do with fishing?

Well, I lost 4 hrs. on the ice yesterday due to snowblowing and shoveling when I'm sure it would have been done sooner with a blade plus I could blade ice trails and fishhouse spots.

Was looking at a new Bombardier Outlander with a blade but that would be slow too.

What should I look for in a plow for my 87 Suburban?

Who, within 50 miles of Hawley MN, sells and installs them? (New or used)

Also my suspension is sagged. How about a reasonable place for springs/mods?

This is a beater Suburban just for icefishing (spraypainted flat black and puddy all over) I don't want to stick much money on it.

Thanks for your help!

Hey Scott...

Hmmmmm.... A plow on a budget.... MAN, Does that sound familiar. Been there, done that!! What's your budget?

For your 87, even if it's a half ton, there's no reason you couldn't hang a 7' or 7 1/2' standard duty, straight blade off the front. Stay away from the cheapo, light weight "residential" models. And you really have no need for anything more heavy duty (than "standard") unless you plan on going into business. Since money IS a concern, I think "V" models are going to be out as well. They would be great to punch trails on the ice, but they'll be spendy. Even used. You're also going to want a rig where all the headgear is removeable. Meaning the headlights, pump and lift frame all come off the truck as a single unit. Such as a Western Unimount.

There are plenty of spring "booster" products out on the market. But, I feel these are just band-aids. You're best bet is to swap out the front springs for more heavy duty units. Example: install one ton springs in a half ton truck.

There are really good deals out the on used plows. You just have to look for them. With the plow season in full swing, check all the major dealers in your area. They may have some trade-ins just taking up space they need to get rid of.

You're welcome Scott... If you need anything else... Post here or feel free to drop me an email... I've been pushin' snow for quite a few years now and I may just have a bit of a handle on it... But then again... confused.gif LOL!!

Good luck on your hunt...
