Why can't I take a Trophy Buck?

Walter: What is a trophy to YOU. Never mind what somebody else thinks, any deer a person takes with a bow is a trophy. I used to be a trophy hunter and took my share of book whitetail but am now a meat hunter and just love being in the woods. To me a 3 X 3 is what I am looking for. I wouldn't pass up a heavy 5 X 5 but find the 3 x 3 better eating.

There has been lots of advice and good advice. I am spoiled and have lots of private land but have chosen to hunt a large tract of crown land (30 miles by about 25 miles) with only a few trails through it. I rarely see another hunter so have a hard time thinking of being restricted to 180 acres. If U want to shoot a heavy 5 x 5 don't shoot that spike or 3 x 3 that walks by U and expect to be still carrying that tag in your wallet at the end of the season a couple of years.

Venture out and find alternate areas and hunt a stand NO more than 2 days in a row and only if the wind is right. As said many times, mature bucks are NOT stupid, even though they may be in rut.

Good luck and keep practising because every hour you spend out in the bush is one hour closer to that chance in a life time buck walking by and U have to make that shot count.

I find a 3 X 3 alot larger in body than a doe and if U shot a doe then it can't reproduce whereas one buck will service several does. The forks are usually still not a mature body. Just my crazy line of thinking.
