FISHER ED
If there is one thing you can count on on Devils Lake, besides the wind, is the shrimp. Those things are everywhere. They sure can make the fishing tough at times but they are the same reason you pull the huge perch out of the water. Seems like we notice the shrimp more in the winter than in the summer though. Maybe because they get all over the ice where you can notice them more. Next time, scoop a few up and hook a bunch of them on your jig and keep fishing. hanson
I was on Devils Lake this winter at very early ice, about 4" in the bays and the main lake was still open water. Anyway, as we were walking off the ice at night, you could see the thousands of shrimp right up against the bottom of the ice swimming and scooting around. It was really a crazy sight. And yeah, every hole I augered had a dozen or so shrimp end up on top of the ice in the slush pile.
